Peacefully at the Aspinwall VA Hospital, on Thursday, January 4, 2018, Edwin E., age 87, formerly of Crafton. Beloved son of the late John T. and Vesta E. Vogel; loving husband of the late Mary Joan Abel; dear brother of John Robert Vogel of Florida and the late Arthur G. and Richard C. Vogel; brother-in-law of Barbara N. Vogel; also numerous nieces and nephews and step-children.. Friends received at the Hershberger-Stover Inc. Funeral Home, 170 Noble Avenue, Crafton, on Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p. m. where Funeral Service will be Monday at 11 AM. Crafton Volunteer Fire Department, where Ed was a Life Member, the former long-time treasurer, and a member for over 67 years, will hold services at the funeral home on Sunday at 7 PM. Ed was a Korean War veteran and received the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He was a former national service officer for the Order of the Purple Heart and received the Veteran of the Year award for his grass-roots efforts on behalf of veterans. Ed was a former Secretary of Sharing and Caring, Inc. and devoted much of his time helping the group sponsor their annual boat ride for disabled veterans. He was a member of Marine Corps League Detachment # 310, Korean Was Veterans Assn. of W. PA, Sharing and Caring, Inc., Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Vesle Post 418, Disabled American Veterans, 1st Marine Division Assn., Marine Corps Assn., Chosin Few and Frank R.
