John S. "Jack"

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, John S. "Jack", age 86, of Ingram passed away quietly to the eternal life in the Lord’s hands. He was the beloved youngest brother of nine siblings and is survived by his sister Patricia Schempp.

John served three years in the Navy and fourteen years in the PA Air National Guard Allegheny County. He met the love of his life, Barbara, in 1960 and they were happily married for 64 years. An avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman, John especially loved the Pennsylvania mountains and was a member of Elmbrook Hunting Club in Benezette, PA for 58 years. His work ethic was above reproach, and he took great pride in providing for his family and doing things the right way (the Captain’s way). He retired after working 35 years in the engineering department at Montefiore Hospital at age 72.

John was the loving father of SMSgt. David E. (Akiko) Damits, USAF (Ret.), Damian E. (Donna Roberts) Damits, Caryn Damits and Jennifer McCann. Dear Grandfather of, Ashley Mazuer, John S. (Emily), Damits II, Kenneth T. (Danielle) and Rhys Damits. Great-grandfather of Liam Jennings, and favorite Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was a positive influence and role model to many family members and friends.
