Applebaum, Karen Sue
At Family Hospice Canterbury in Lawrenceville on Thursday,March 18, 2021, Karen S., age 64, of Crafton, went peacefully into the arms of her Lord. Beloved daughter of the late Max and Mildred Radovich Applebaum; loving sister of Elaine E. (Hayes) Gearhart of State College and the late Edward H. (surviving wife Mel) and Linda J. (surviving husband Robert) Mizwa; also 2 nieces and 5 nephews. Karen was a 1974 graduate of Carlynton High School. After high school she enrolled at Slippery Rock College and earned a teaching degree. She was engaged to be married, employed at Mobay Chemical Company and did some fashion modeling on the side...until 1979 when she was a passenger in a severe car accident. Only two of the five people in the car survived. Karen was one of the two. Thanks be to God, Karen strived with courage to overcome limitations incurred as a result of the accident. She was an enthusiastic Pirates baseball fan, enjoyed musical productions, participated in Toastmasters Club and volunteered at Global Links of Pittsburgh. Gifted with a quick wit and subtle sense of humor she seldom missed a chance to provide a challenge. Karen was also a member of the Hawthorne Avenue Presbyterian Church in Crafton. Due to the current pandemic, services and interment were regrettably private. Arrangements were entrusted to the Hershberger-Stover Inc. Funeral Home, 170 Noble Avenue, Crafton. If desired, memorials may be made to Global Links, 700 Trumbull Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205; https:www.globallinks.org.
