Margaret Gump Obituary

Gump

Margaret A.

Margaret A. Gump, longtime resident of Crafton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 at the age of 84. She lived a life of loving and serving others. She was born June 8, 1940 in McKees Rocks, PA, the youngest of six to the late Angienettie and Rocco Marzzarella Sr. Margaret is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence E. Gump Sr. of Canonsburg, PA.  Margaret was a proud graduate of Crafton High School (1958) and Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing (1961). Nursing was central to her identity in her over 40-year career in Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery at Ohio Valley General Hospital. She touched the lives of countless newborns and families.  Having been introduced by friends, Margaret married Lawrence E. Gump Sr. on July 2, 1966. Margaret is the loving mother of Lori (Eric) Tissue, Lawrence (Tracie) Gump Jr. and Lee (Wendy) Gump.  She is “Grammy” to Madison Tissue Mellinger and Casey Tissue; Jillian (Gump) Stuart, Russell Gump and Jackson Gump; Brayden and Brynlee Gump and Marisa Walworth. Margaret had a propensity to be quiet and reserved on the outside, but on the inside, her love ran deep. Margaret was a lifelong active member of the First Baptist Church of Crafton where she grew in her Christian faith, was baptized and led and served in many ways.  When she was young, she was known to walk to church if her family was not able to attend. That is how much she wanted to be in church on Sunday.  Margaret was not afraid of hard work as she demonstrated when on a mission trip to Nicaragua at age 65. One of her tasks was to bend homemade rebar as the team helped to build a rural health clinic.  After retiring, Margaret loved to stay in touch and travel with her nursing alumni friends. She continued to bless families in the area by providing handmade quilts for new babies at the hospital and administering vaccines at local clinics. In her “Grammy” years she kept active with water aerobics and taking walks and had many sewing and quilting projects going on at once. Her love language was to share the work of her hands.  If Oldies were playing, she danced. She also liked to be in the kitchen to make her delicious Italian pasta with meatballs, cookies and desserts for her loved ones and friends. Family and friends will be received at the Hershberger-Stover Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 170 Noble Avenue, Crafton, PA 15205 on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where the funeral service will be Friday at 11 AM followed by a private interment .  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Crafton, 1 Oregon Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
