Nadena D. LaQuay, 91, of Crafton, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She is survived by her sons, James R. (Beth) of East Palestine, OH; Alan D. (Maureen) of Timberlake, NC; and E. Dana of Pittsburgh, PA; her brother, Eddie D. (Carolyn) Daugherty of Marathon, NY; her grandchildren, Autumn LaQuay Yasher, Justin LaQuay, Ryan LaQuay, and Brandon (Maria) LaQuay; and her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Carigan, and Stetson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin G. LaQuay; her son, Anthony L. LaQuay; her parents, Adie and Nellie Daugherty; and her brothers, Roger and Freddie Daugherty. Born in Geraldine, AL, Nadena grew up in Jacksonville, AL, where she met and married Ed. After living in Jacksonville and Anniston, AL, and later in Paden City, WV, they made their home in Crafton, PA in 1962. Nadena was a devoted wife, mother, and community member. She worked as a dedicated Avon representative for nearly 50 years and was admired for her legendary green thumb and love of gardening. Her passion for helping others was evident in her extensive volunteer work, including serving as a First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross, a Traveler’s Aid desk worker at the Pittsburgh Airport, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Carlynton High School Band booster, and in various positions within her church. For many years, she also shared her love of music by singing in church choirs and as a member of a traveling gospel trio. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Crafton Baptist Church, along with friends and neighbors, for their kindness and support shown to Nadena and the family. In accordance with Nadena’s wishes, there was no viewing. Her ashes were interred, alongside her late husband, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11 AM in the First Baptist Church of Crafton, 1 Oregon Ave., Crafton, PA 15205 with Pastor Mike McComey officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either to the Crafton Volunteer Fire Dept., 8 Stotz Ave., Crafton, PA 15205 or First Baptist Church of Crafton, 1 Oregon Ave., Crafton, PA. 15205.
