Podobnik, Robert L. "Bob"
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Robert L. "Bob" Podobnik, age 89, of North Fayette, peacefully passed away. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Born on Christmas Day in 1935 in Upper St. Clair Township, Bob’s life was marked by a deep love for his family, his community, and the many passions he cherished throughout his life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joy M. Podobnik, with whom he shared 62 years of love, partnership, and memories. Together, they created a life filled with joy, laughter, and mutual devotion. They raised two daughters Katherine (Donald) Thomas and Jacqueline (Nicholas) Hryadil. He was a doting grandfather to David Hryadil, Allison Smith (John), and a great-grandfather to Nellie Smith. Bob is survived by his siblings, Catherine Kalinoski, Anthony Podobnik, Richard (Ginny) Podobnik, and James (Kathleen) Podobnik including many nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area, Bob had a long and successful career as a Stationary Engineer at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport, where he worked for 36 years, serving Allegheny County until his retirement. His commitment to his work was matched by his dedication to his faith and community. He was a member of the Montour Presbyterian Church. When he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Bob served as the President of the Church Council. He contributed to several church committees and was a Eucharistic Minister in his many years of church service. Bob’s interests were varied and vibrant. He was an avid sports fan, always enthusiastic about watching games and following teams, but also had a deep appreciation for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening, often spending time in his yard tending to his plants. He had a love for reading and was a fan of crossword puzzles, a pastime that kept his mind sharp. Bob cherished his time outdoors, whether it was on beach vacations with his family, camping trips, or enjoying time in Florida during the winters with his wife. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren, often attending their sports events, caring for them when they were sick, and taking them camping in their family camper. Per Bob's wishes, he was laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Montour Church Cemetery after a private family service. His family is comforted knowing that Bob’s life was one well-lived-a life defined by love, service, and a joy for the simple things. Arrangements were entrusted to the Hershberger-Stover Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crafton, PA.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
