In addition to his family and work, Sam enjoyed many hobbies. He especially enjoyed creating stained glass and golfing. He enjoyed traveling and got to see many different places in his lifetime. He was an avid Steelers fan and cherished his trips to the Superbowl. He was an instrumental part in creating the From Alex with Love Foundation, a foundation created in memory of his late granddaughter Alexzandra. He supported the Run for Alex and volunteered his time to ensure its success. Other than his family the thing he cared for most was his dogs: Josie and the late Jodi, Casey, Erin and Matty.
