Steve "Pista" Jr.
Steve "Pista" Elek, Jr., age 96, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born in Phillips, PA to the loving immigrant parents from Hungary, the late Steve and Anna Elek. Steve was the beloved husband for 51 years of the late Cecelia A. Elek. He was the dear father of Cynthia (Joseph) Mayer, Stephanie (Thomas) Crowley, Mark (Carol) Elek, Gary (Tammy) Elek, Kevin Elek, and Eric (Elizabeth) Elek, and the late Steve (surviving wife Katharine) Elek III. He was the loving grandfather of Steve (Kate) Elek IV, Peter Elek, Melissa Hinkle, Christopher (Amy) Bacon, Whitney (Kyle) Davis, Zachary (Lisa) Long, Marissa (Ira Hammond) Long, Michael, Nicholas and Cecelia Crowley, Nathaniel Elek and Henrik Elek. Steve was the proud great-grandfather of Madeleine and Christian Elek, Augustus Elek, Robert (Lyndsey) Hinkle, Thomas (Carlie) Hinkle, Emily (Braden) Picardi, Miranda (James) Bergstorm, Madolyn (Elijah) Martin, Samantha Bacon, Wyatt Davis, Taylor and Baylee McDaniel, Kayleb, Zoey, Myles and Hudsyn Long, Auhbriey and Aspen Long, and Alexander Hammond. Steve was also the fond great-great grandfather of six. He was the brother of Martin (Betty) Elek and was preceded in death by his sisters, brother and their spouses Ann Voight, Julia (Steve) Dulik, Irene (Pat) Amodio, Elizabeth (John) Stoffa, and George (Betty) Elek. Steve retired from his career after over 30 years with the Port Authority of Allegheny County. He had a passion for God, country and family. Steve loved gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, as well as camping, fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was a competitive athlete and loved to play baseball and tennis. Steve was a member of many organizations, including, but not limited to, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a Master Mason where he was a 50-year member of the Allegheny Royal Arch Chapter No. 217, Allegheny Commandery No. 35, and a 50-year member of the Perry-Ionic Lodge No. 796; he achieved the 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite. Steve was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and served his beloved country during World War II and the Korean War. Following a private service, Steve was laid to rest, with military honors, with his beloved wife, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements entrusted to the HERSHBERGER-STOVER INC.
